VSPC Election Judges assist voters at Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs) located throughout Arapahoe County.  There will be four VSPCs for the Primary Election and approximately 25 for the General Election. 

This is a seasonal position with variable working hours based on business needs.

Locations: Aurora, Byers, Littleton and the Centennial area. 

Duties

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. 
 
 

  • Greet voters, answer questions about the election, and direct them to other VSPC judges.
  • Verify proper identification, register new voters and update existing voter registration.
  • Issue paper ballots.
  • Assist voters with tablet marking devices.
  • Assist IT staff with technical support of VSPC equipment.
  • Assist with VSPC set-up and tear-down.
  • Complete reconciliation and chain-of-custody paperwork.
  • Supervisor judges will oversee the other judges and the operation of the VSPCs.

Requirements

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 

  • Knowledge of state statutes, regulations, procedures and forms applicable to Elections division operations.
  • Personal communication skills enabling courteous and diplomatic interactions with elections watchers as well as establishing effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to focus on a single task for extended periods.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work overtime or weekends when needed.
  • Knowledge of SCORE database preferred.
  • Experience in VSPCs preferred.

Applicants need to be 18 or older

Supplemental Information

This position requires successful completion of pre-employment background check.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
VSPC judges receive immediate supervision from the VSPC Supervisor Judge.  They may all receive supervision from Election Operations employees, or the Deputy of Elections. 
 
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
Primary contacts are with the voting public and with other Election Judges at their assigned VSPC.  Judges may also interact with employees of the Arapahoe County Elections, IT, or Facilities departments.  These contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is confined to a standard office setting and occasional warehouse setting.
 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
Spends 80% of each day sitting and another 20% either walking or standing.
 
Occasionally lifts or carries up to 50lbs.  
 
Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication
through automated devices such as the telephone.
 
Eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling use of the office equipment.
 
Visual capacity enabling operation of office and computer equipment.
 
Occasionally:   Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently:      Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Constantly:      Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
