Summary

King County Elections is looking for a Desktop Support Specialist-Journey to provide second level support for all IT service requests at a department level.  This Term Limited Temp position will provide a key role in several important projects for King County Elections (including equipment replacement, deployment and implementation of Office365 and Lync).

 

As a member of the primary onsite support team, this position will address all IT incidents, service requests, and technical support issues for the Elections Department.  This position will address requests via telephone, email, web, or in person.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. The typical workweek is Monday through Friday.  Hours may vary depending on workload. This position has a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  This position may be required to work extended and/or flex scheduled work hours to respond to business needs.

Job Duties

  • Primary duties include responding to requests from end users (utilizing a ticket assignment tool) for help with a wide range of computer issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve end user systems problems; troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, applications, networking and other issues; repair computers, printers and other peripherals; and escalate/refer unresolved problems/issues to the designated next level resources.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation and procedures to improve processes internally and provide user assistance, including help sheets and FAQs for end users.
  • Develop reports on provided end user support services, log user requests, develop and upgrade tracking systems, identify and report recurring problems.
  • Create and modify network user accounts and other accounts.
  • Install, configure and test new applications, upgrades and installs on networked user desktops.
  • Perform or participate in end user support and LAN or related IT systems projects; may participate in a wide variety of support and maintenance of work area and other IT systems.
  • Provide end user training as needed using a variety of methods; may provide and organize structured training (classes or groups), maintain training documentation, and share technical information with other IT staff; may train new hires.
  • Perform imaging and deployment of new pc's, inventory of computers and peripherals and surplus of outdated equipment as directed.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team to troubleshoot and repair complex system issues in an ever changing environment.
  • Work in conjunction with King County Information Technology (KCIT) Division to process requests.
  • Provide weekend and after hour on-call assistance for tabulation and voter registration systems as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing customer IT support or the equivalent of a combination of 5 years experience and education providing customer IT support.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical ways.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:  Help Desk, Desktop Support, LAN Administration, Server Support, Applications Support, Network Support.
  • A demonstrated commitment to customer service. This includes the demonstrated ability to learn a diverse business line, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers, defining customer service standards, being responsive to requests and concerns.
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize customer reported issues and recognize critical issues.
  • Skilled at using logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to a wide range of individuals including customers at various levels.
  • Demonstrated skill at working collaboratively, creating relationships, building trust and rapport with others.
  • Experience in Active Directory, Remote Assistance tools, Windows XP, Windows 7, Office 2007, & Office 2010.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with a focus on quickly restoring service for users.
  • Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel throughout the county in a timely manner.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Knowledge of ITIL
  • Proficient with LANDesk Service Desk
  • MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
  • MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician)
