ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the general Supervision of the Epidemiology Program Manager, this position is responsible for surveillance and epidemiologic activities pertaining to the Public Health response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This position functions as an Epidemiologist focused on data analysis for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The incumbent will conduct disease incidence, vital records, death, hospital discharge, and health information system data surveillance; assist HHS programs in conducting data analyses; provide technical assistance and training on data and analyses; design and conduct program evaluations and staff trainings; design and implement research projects; analyze and translate data findings into reports, newsletters, and public-facing data dashboards; work closely with HHS program staff to assist in tracking, translating, and communicating program successes; and work with state, county and local data platforms to track community health.    

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate:

The highly qualified candidate for this position will have strong technical skills, (epidemiologic data analytic skills, and experience with statistical programs and data visualization software) as well as the ability to effectively translate data effectively to the public. The Epidemiologist will possess excellent critical thinking skills, strong interpersonal communications skills, the ability to adapt well to fast-paced changing environment and collaborate effectively with multiple team members from different disciplines. The incumbent will have the capacity to enhance data systems to create reports that can be used for epidemiological modeling for capacity, resources, and patient impact at healthcare facilities. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of a wide range of available data sources, and is able to analyze electronic medical records, population health data, social service program information, or other clinic-based databases. The Epidemiologist will have experience in designing or leading program evaluation efforts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, is respectful, flexible, forward-thinking, and can work independently.

A master's degree in epidemiology or public health with a specialization in epidemiology is required. Some experience in the field of epidemiology performing study design, implementation or analysis is desirable.
