ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Community Epidemiology Program Director, the Bilingual Contact Investigator conducts contact investigations remotely via phone of persons identified as COVID-19 positive or exposed to a positive person. Other responsibilities include, providing health education, planning, and guidance for implementation of isolation, quarantine, and access to community resources. As part of a team, Bilingual contact Investigators will also be assigned to the field to collect and process nasopharyngeal and/or oropharyngeal swab specimens and to support in the distribution of vaccines.
 
There are currently fifteen (15) full-time contingent positions available with the Division of Public Health's Communicable Disease COVID-19 Response Multidisciplinary team. Positions will be filled at either the entry level OR experienced level.
 
Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they meet minimum qualifications. The Bilingual Contact Investigators will be required to successfully complete specific COVID-19 training.

Our highly qualified candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress. They have the ability to show empathy to those in distress and handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.  Our ideal candidate has excellent organizational and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt well to change. This person is detailed-oriented and works well as a multidisciplinary team member whether working remotely or in the field.  Our candidate is proficient with computers and various software programs and adept to learning new software applications. Contact Investigations work operates seven days per week and our ideal candidate will have the availability to work some evenings and weekends.
 
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate for the experienced level has demonstrated experience conducting interviews that are very sensitive nature in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.  The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to work independently with multiple clients/patients simultaneously, and utilize excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Public Health Investigator I: Completion of two years of college (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) with at least 12 semester (18 quarter) units in biological or behavioral science, health education, public health, social services, or a field related to the work; OR equivalent technical training; OR one year of experience in one or more of the following: interviewing to develop an assessment or conclusion, conducting field investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals for services based upon needs assessments, and collecting and analyzing epidemiological data.
 
Public Health Investigator II: (In addition to above) One year of experience in communicable disease investigation and control.

 
Bilingual Skill Requirement: Candidates at both levels will also be required to demonstrate oral and written proficiency in both English and Spanish. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidate possesses the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements of the position.

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
