The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is now recruiting for the full time, seasonal 24th Waterways Conservation Officer Trainee Class to be held Summer 2021.

  • Seasonal full-time employment
  • Waterways Conservation Officer Trainees who successfully complete the 52-week training program will be promoted to a seasonal Waterways Conservation Officer.  This seasonal position will work full-time 40 hours each week from approximately March to October of each year.  Shifts vary depending on operational requirements and include weekends and holidays
  • Upon successful completion of the trainee program, seasonal employees will have the opportunity to apply for permanent Waterways Conservation Officer positions as they become available, which may require relocation.
  • Eligible for medical, prescription drug, supplemental benefits (vision, dental, hearing aid) for permanent, full-time commonwealth employee or a permanent part-time commonwealth employee who works at least 50% of full-time hours. Your cost for these benefits is taken through payroll deduction
  • On a Leave Without Pay With Benefits (LWOPWB) status and enrolled in benefits, you must continue to pay for coverage or it will be canceled and you will be responsible for any claims incurred when you were no longer eligible for coverage due to non-payment. You will receive invoices from the PEBTF while on LWOPWB, but will be responsible for payment regardless of whether an invoice is received. If you are enrolled and you do not want to continue your benefits while on LWOPWB you should contact the HR Service Center
  • Permanent full-time positions are eligible for full retirement benefits at age 55, or 25 years of service

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Waterways Conservation Officer Trainees participate in a year of classroom and field training.  The selected candidates will reside at training center sites to attend 26 weeks of Act 120 Training, i.e., law enforcement principles and practices, followed by 26 weeks of training in fish and boat laws, watercraft safety, environmental protection and other related areas.  You MUST complete Act 120 training.

Successfully complete the program and be promoted to a seasonal Waterways Conservation Officer, with an increase in salary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Must meet PA residency requirement – For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency
  • Necessary Special Requirement - All positions require possession of an active PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent
  • Necessary Special Requirement - All employees must be at least 21 years of age
  • This particular position also requires applicants to complete questions regarding job-related requirements
