THE POSITION

This position is designed to provide the candidate with the initial skills and information necessary to begin his/her police career. The candidate must successfully complete the basic MPOETC training program requirements prior to performing any police-related duties, obtain Act 120 certification, and the departments field training course.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

An employee in this job is enrolled in a MPOETC approved Act 120 certification program designed to develop proficiency in law interpretation and application, legal procedures, police operations, public safety, physical fitness, self-defense, firearms use, first aid, report writing, maintenance and use of equipment, and law enforcement practices.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Schedule based on HACC's curriculum.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid drivers license. 
  • All employees must be at least 21 years of age by completion of the program.
  • All employees must undergo and successfully pass a medical examination, urinalysis screening, psychological evaluation, a truth verification exam, hearing and vision screening, and a physical fitness test that includes running, swimming, strength and agility, and any other test deemed appropriate for pre-service registration. 
  • All employees are required to enroll in, participate, and complete the MPOETC approved Act 120 training, by the end of the probationary period, to obtain authority to exercise the power of arrest. Act 120 certification must be obtained to successfully complete the intern program. 

Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) Requirements:

  • In order to participate in and complete the 919 hour training program you must have the following: 
    • Have a High School Diploma or GED
    • Be a US Citizen
    • Minimum 9th grade reading level

Other Requirements:

  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency. 
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
