The Parks Department
Pierce County Parks manages over 5,000 acres of open space, trails, developed and undeveloped parks.  We provide recreational programs and community gathering spaces. The department consists of three divisions:  Parks and Recreation, Administrative Services and Resource Stewardship. Our mission is to be a leader in creating livable communities by providing opportunities for people to connect with nature, learn about sustainable practices, live healthy lifestyles, and enjoy vibrant community spaces. 
 

Position Summary

Pierce County Parks is accepting applications for a seasonal maintenance job opening.  Applicants will perform building and trail maintenance work at the Lakewood Community Center and Seeley Lake Park in Lakewood.  Previous experience in janitorial services or closely related fields is highly desired. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be willing to work evenings and weekends.

This is a seasonal position not eligible for vacation leave or County medical benefits.

As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED, minimum 18 years of age
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including swing shift and weekends up to 40 hours per week
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience working with people of all ages and abilities. 
  • Knowledge of maintenance related work
  • Janitorial experience
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

Sick Leave
Extra hires are eligible to receive sick leave in accordance with the WA State Minimum Wage Act.  Extra hires are not eligible for other County benefits.

Social Security
All Pierce County employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The county and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
Pro-tem Judges in District Court, Pro-tem Superior Court Commissioners, Extra Hires with Retirement, and Work Study Students with Retirement are eligible for Retirement and Deferred Compensation and Social Security.
