GENERAL SUMMARY

This position does not work from a remote location.  
This position works on-site directly with children and other team members.  

This recruitment has been re-opened and the position will be posted until filled. 

Schedule: up to 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday between 8:00 am – 5:30 pm
  • 8.5 hours a day (30-minute unpaid lunch)

Types of positions available: Instructors at 40 hours/week and Instructors on an as needed basis (substitute instructors)

General Purpose & Scope of Work
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will help assist in child recreational and educational programs that support Remote Learning.  This position works on-site directly with children and other team members.  

These positions will work as part of a team which is responsible for planning and monitoring the activities of children enrolled in the program. Incumbents will interact with children to keep them engaged in intellectual, creative, artistic and physical activities throughout the day. Support remote learning for participants and develop and coordinate activities outside remote learning time. Communicate with peers daily to ensure proper supplies and equipment are available.
 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Essential Functions 

  1. Assist with accessing remote learning activities
  2. Support participants in their remote learning.
  3. Assist in leadership and supervision of program participants.
  4. Help participants with social integration.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude and a safe environment for children and co-workers.
  6. Organize games and activities.
  7. Set up, take down and clean up of facilities.
  8. Know and follow City policies and procedures including COVID specific guidelines.
  9. Promote proper health and safety behaviors by practicing established COVID-19 transmission risk reduction measures
  10. Communicate with the community and participant families in a professional manner.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Previous knowledge and experience with youth recreational programs.
Experience in leading in a group setting.
Experience in school or recreation activities that include supervising or leading groups of children.
Strong interest and ability to lead activities in arts, sports and games for youth.
Strong oral communication skills with an enthusiastic and friendly personality.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • CPR certification or ability to acquire within 3 months.
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre-employment background checks.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Working and Environmental Conditions
Community center/indoor and outdoor recreational facility environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to computer screen, noisy; inclement weather conditions.

Physical Conditions 
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; repeated bending; operating motorized vehicles.

Effective January 1, 2018,  Extra Help employees will accrue one hour of sick leave for every forty hours worked. 
Extra Help positions are allowed to work up to 1040 hours per year.
