Washington State Ferries (WSF) is a government agency within the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) that operates automobile and passenger ferry service as part of the state highway system. The agency maintains the largest fleet of ferries in the United States with 22 vessels carrying 24 million passengers, serving 10 routes, and 20 terminals located around Puget Sound and in the San Juan Islands. As of 2017, Washington State Ferries was the third largest ferry system in the world.
 
Position Profile: The Washington State Ferries Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility is seeking a Journey Level Locksmith that possesses skills in fabricating, cataloging and issuing keys, and installing, maintaining and repairing electronic and mechanical locksets. 
 
This position will perform the following work:
 

  • Fabricate, catalog and issue keys as approved by WSF Eagle Harbor management.
  • Maintain and repair vessel and terminal mechanical and electronic locksets and electric door strikes.
    • Install levers, knobs, push bars, latches, and wooden door closures.
    • Combinate cores.
    • Manipulate locks.
    • Repair or replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts using hand tools.
    • Disassemble, inspect, lubricate, repair and reassemble existing levers, knobs, push bars, latches, and wooden door closures (8K, 9K, mortise locks, exit devices and cabinet locks).
    • Troubleshoot low voltage electrical locks and A-MAG systems.
    • Install and troubleshoot Essex proximity readers and push pads.
    • Diagnose and repair Key Systems Electronic Key Boxes.
    • Rekey/Rescore vessel Electronic Key Boxes and Security rated accesses.
  • Appropriately use supplies, hand tools and equipment.
  • Keep and maintain an accurate record of maintenance and repairs.
  • Track and replenish shop stock as necessary, order parts and maintain inventory of all lock parts used by WSF.
  • Must be able to use drills, dye grinder, disc grinder, sawzall, drill presses, table saws, router, hand tools, sanders.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed, 24/7, with personal vehicle.

  • Journey level status as a Locksmith or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a Locksmith.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and current insurance.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 90 days of hire.

The following information describes typical benefits available for full-time employees who are expected to work more than six months. Actual benefits may vary by appointment type or be prorated for other than full-time work. Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
