The Opportunity:
 
WSDOT has an exciting opportunity for an enterprising transportation planner who has strong analytical and communication skills and a passion for multimodal transportation solutions. This position will support the Olympic Region Planning Office by leading community engagement and developing strategies and solutions that support the regions' pre-design and scoping programs. The Multimodal Development Manager will work in partnership with local jurisdictions, tribes, internal partners, environmental groups, and the public to develop strategies to meet performance goals and system needs. This position will perform the following work:

  • Plan and execute community engagement efforts for Region projects.
  • Quantify baseline performance (modal performance) and work closely with multimodal, multiagency and multidisciplinary stakeholders to target performance-based goals and develop short, medium, and long-term strategies to meet performance goals and system needs.
  • Work directly with Program Management, and coordinate with other region disciplines, to prioritize and scope solutions that achieve performance goals.
  • Lead in the development of Corridor Sketches and assigned planning/corridor studies.
  • Review Regional Transportation Plans and local Comprehensive Plans for consistency with WSDOT policies, standards and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

An ideal candidate for this position will have:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years professional transportation experience involving project and program management or analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems in a multimodal environment OR one year as a Transportation Planning Specialist 4 or Transportation Engineer 4, or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams, share accurate and pertinent information in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to lead teams to generate and implement workable and useful solutions to difficult problems, and identify appropriate courses of action in response to situations.
  • Ability to translate highly technical information for varied audiences.
  • Ability to travel on a regular, sporadic or as needed basis.
  • Experience leading community outreach efforts and developing stakeholder relations that result in tangible, coordinated, performance-based planning strategies and solutions is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer or AICP licensure is preferred.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
