Description

**Due to the significant travel requirements, the primary locations of artworks in the State Art Collection, and the need for access to an existing workspace, ArtsWA prefers a telework location in Thurston, Pierce, or South King counties.

**Special Note:  We encourage everyone to apply, but please note that currently ArtsWA is unable to accommodate relocation reimbursements.

Who we are:
The mission of the Washington State Arts Commission, also known as ArtsWA, is to be a catalyst for the arts, advancing the role of the arts in the lives of individuals and communities throughout the State. We have a particular interest in serving diverse populations and increasing equity and access in the arts. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit our website www.arts.wa.gov to gain insight into the agency's mission and strategic plan.

What you will be doing:

This position is within the Art in Public Places (AIPP) Team. As the AIPP Collections Care lead for 3-dimensional and integrated artworks, your focus will be on those located in Western Washington. You will primarily work with outdoor sculpture and large integrated artwork.

You will be providing specialized care, conservation, and maintenance to the diverse and irreplaceable artworks that comprise the State Art Collection, which is accessible to the public across Washington in places where they learn, work, and interact with the State. You will research, develop, plan, coordinate, and perform specialized conservation and maintenance activities on artwork in the State Art Collection.  You will act as the lead technician for specialized conservation and maintenance of outdoor sculpture and large-scale integrated artwork.

You will interface with other technicians, directing, advising, and collaborating as needed.  You will also confer with partner agencies ensuring that ArtsWA work at partner facilities is conducted in accordance with campus/partner policies for safety and risk mitigation.  You may also direct the work of partner agency staff and contractors.

Who we are looking for:

The ideal person will display a strong passion for the arts, a solid grounding in the care and conservation of 3D artworks, and community relationship building during interactions with diverse groups of constituents, partners, and stakeholders statewide. You will be an independent, self-starter with strong attention to details and have the ability to lead our team to handle overlapping projects and meet deadlines.

Why YOU would be interested in this position:
You will be a part of a high-level team where collaboration is a unique aspect of working at a small agency. Your work will involve engaging in efficient and responsive collection care processes for a program that enhances Washington’s public buildings and campuses; impacts students, educators, state employees, and the general public; and directly supports artists, fine art conservators, fabricators, engineers, contractors, and the state’s creative economy.

Because we are a small agency, you will have multiple opportunities to develop, grow, and become deeply involved in the work of AIPP and ArtsWA—opportunities that you won't find in a larger agency. We are deeply committed to equitable access to the arts. We work hard and truly enjoy what we do while maintaining pride in our work. We are busy year-round. If you enjoy staying busy and like a variety of duties and opportunities to shape those duties, we promise you won't get bored. If this position fits your experience and you are passionate about the arts, we encourage you to apply.

Duties

Some of what you’ll enjoy doing includes:
