Summary

The Department of Elections is recruiting Administrative Specialist II's who will also support the Language Services Program at King County Elections.  These individuals must be able to read, write, understand and speak Korean and/or Spanish at the language proficiency testing level used by the Department.
 
This position translates documents, participates in engagement and education/registration activities, assists voters by providing interpretation, conducts research, and provides administrative support in the voter services division.

Job Duties

  • Translate or proof election-related documents and web materials to Spanish or Korean, including but not limited to: voter registration information, letters and other correspondence to limited English speaking (LES) voters including, notice of elections, ballot titles and voters' pamphlet information, candidate statements, ballot measures, resolutions and related materials.
  • Answer inquiries from Spanish- or Korean- language voters.
  • Review, edit and proofread all translated documents produced by translation service providers and others for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
  • Participate in engagement events which publicize election services and resources.
  • Improve work processes, address quality control issues, and document procedures.
  • Provide established policies, procedures, codes, regulations and other relevant sources, in English and Spanish or Korean, to internal and/or external customers in writing, face-to-face or by telephone.
  • Deal with sensitive and/or potentially challenging customer service situations.
  • Research and summarize specialized or technical information from varied sources. This may require selecting the most appropriate material and the use of spreadsheets and customized database applications.
  • Research and resolve questions, problems, or inquiries from voters, staff, citizens and/or stakeholders.
  • Provide overall voter services administrative support, including performing duties related to document tracking, filing and data management. Regular use of Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Assist voters' needs by researching voter demographics and other relevant data, reviewing voter registration data reports, and communicating with advocacy and community based groups and organizations.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Must be able to read, write, understand and speak Korean and/or Spanish at the language proficiency testing level.
 
High level of language to include interpreting, reading, writing and speaking in both English and Spanish or Korean (read and write Spanish or Korean and speak Spanish or Korean). (Candidates will be tested to determine translation skills and language proficiency.) 
Office and computer skills including the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook.  (Candidates will be tested on office and computer skills.) 
 
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. 
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to organize work assignments, set priorities, and follow through on work assignments.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in translation of written documents in Korean or Spanish, including the translation of technical or legal documents.
