General Purpose

Sound Transit has an exciting paid internship opportunity for the Summer 2018! The Planning & Innovation intern will primarily support the Office of Planning & Innovation for the Planning & Environment & Project Development (PEPD) department.  The Intern will have opportunities to participate in ongoing research, planning and mobility innovation projects, including shadowing professional planners and project managers in project management meetings as well as briefings to senior managers, executives and elected officials.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
 

  • Research, data collection and analysis, as follows
  • Review partner agency plans and programs documentation related to transportation to identify coordination elements with Sound Transit
  • Research industry practices through review of published materials or interview of transit agency staff; summarize and report findings
  • Collect field data on transit system use (i.e. passenger and bicycle counts) and access activities
  • Summarize and analyze data
  • Develop reports, visualizations and write-ups of analyses

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be a current college students in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited four year university Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Transit Planning, or equivalent.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
