Position Description

The Transit and Mobility Division of the Seattle Department of Transportation presents an excellent opportunity working with a team of professionals whose mission is to deliver a safe, interconnected, vibrant, affordable, innovative, and equitable transportation system.
 
This position is in the Parking Programs Section of the Transit and Mobility Division, and is located in the Seattle Municipal Tower.  The position will report to the Section Manager.  The position leads the Curb Space Management group and is responsible for supervising, assigning and directing the work of four engineering staff and responding to a high volume of requests from internal and external customers for information and changes to curb space use.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assign, direct the work, and approve work instructions of four engineering staff.  Unit responsible for parking pay station layout and design, transit zone changes, restricted parking zone implementation and changes, and a wide variety of other multiple uses such as passenger and commercial loading zones, disabled parking zones, and taxi zones.
  • Investigate and resolve high volume of internal and external customer requests for wide variety of changes to curb use.  Conduct field inspections, outreach, make changes to the right-of-way, update records and provide direction to field crews.  Ensure customer requests to unit are accurately tracked, responded to in a timely manner.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Review plans for Capital Projects, corridor improvements, major projects, and a variety of other plans.
  • Implement neighborhood parking and access plans as part of the Community Access and Parking Program.
  • Implement parking changes needed to implement the Bicycle Master Plan, Transit Master Plan, Freight Master Plan.
  • Interpret, apply and articulate Seattle Municipal Code, the Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, among others, for internal and external parties.
  • Design new signs and/or direct the work of other sign designers; coordinate with SDOT Traffic Operations.
  • Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college level course work in Engineering and Construction Technology
  • Four years' of Civil Engineer work or field experience.
  • Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
Other combinations of education, training, and/or experience that provide an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class may be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.
Desired Qualifications  
  • The utilization of computer software such as Excel, Work, Outlook, Hansen 8
  • GIS Experience
  • May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time
  • On-street parking operations and curbspace layout experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service
  • Familiarity with Seattle Municipal Code Title 11 (Traffic Code), RCW Title 46 and MUTCD
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, excellent team-building skills and good personnel management skills
  • Multilingual
