The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Management of Mobility Division, the Corridor Planning Manager serves as the Division's lead for Central Puget Sound focused on long-term (20+years) non-interstate corridor planning through a practical solutions approach to maintain safe and reliable travel mobility options for all modes. The Corridor Planning Manager will also be the lead contact on state and federal planning requirements for the Management of Mobility Division.
 
This position is responsible for coordinating with resources from the Northwest and Olympic Regions, other divisions within the Office of Urban Mobility & Access, Mega Projects and Headquarters and leading working groups (including senior leadership).

This position will perform the following work:

  • Leads the corridor planning function in Snohomish and King Counties in coordination with the Northwest Region Office, and works in closely in a support, and at times lead, role with the Olympic Region on planning issues in Pierce County. 
  • Coordinates planning activities internally with headquarters and regional offices, and externally with local and regional partners;
  • Leads tasks related to state and federal requirements as well as those planning activities related to PSRC;
  • Develops and manages corridor sketch planning in close coordination with headquarters, Northwest and Olympic Regions as well as PSRC, cities and counties and transit operators;
  • Ensures that transportation system management and operations are considered in close coordination with partners agencies;
  • Leads partnerships both internal and external to the agency, focused on developing new multimodal strategies and applications to improve mobility and safety on the Central Puget Sound transportation corridors. 
  • Serves as the regional lead in development of deployment opportunities associated with new technologies such as connected/autonomous vehicle and smart city applications, and other system management innovations.  
 
An ideal candidate for this particular position will also bring the following skills and experience:
  • Knowledge of urban planning, public policy, traffic engineering as well as a strong understanding of planning principles, and associated State and Federal laws, policies, procedures, and practices related to transportation system planning.
  • Requires 8 years of progressive experience successfully managing transportation planning and public policy-focused teams and programs, with understanding of local, regional, state and federal transportation planning processes and demonstrated accountability for supervision, management and tactical decision making.
  • Requires 10 years of progressive experience in public relations, planning, transportation systems management, and/or operations, with a focus on urban freeway and arterial multi modal system operations, including aspects of strategic planning, and development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Working knowledge of the communication protocols and practices, innovative operations technologies and methodologies' used by multiple disciplines lead by and reporting to this position, including various demand management as well as an understanding of multimodal and land use planning.
  • Bachelor Degree in planning, engineering, public policy or a closely related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
